A humanoid robot equipped with an embodied large-scale AI model has been deployed in a convenience store in Beijing’s Haidian District, marking a new step in the integration of robotics into everyday retail services.
The robot is designed to handle a range of customer-facing tasks, including greeting shoppers, responding to product inquiries, providing promotional information, and assisting with the delivery of goods. Customers can interact directly with the system to complete purchases, with the robot retrieving selected items—such as beverages and snacks—based on orders placed via a tablet interface.
Demonstrations at the store showed the robot serving customers, including handing over products like bottled drinks and grilled items, while also assisting in routine service operations. Staff members remain present on-site to supervise operations, support the system, and ensure smooth customer experience.
Maintenance and safety procedures are also in place, with employees regularly disinfecting the robot’s grippers and assisting in operational coordination.
The deployment reflects ongoing efforts in China to explore practical applications of advanced humanoid robotics in commercial retail environments.
